The qualifications for an English teaching certificate require both written exams and interviews. There are three main subjects for the written exams, including "Comprehensive Qualities", "Educational Knowledge and Abilities", and "Subject Knowledge and Teaching Abilities". The interview usually lasts around 10 minutes and consists of a teaching demonstration and questions from the examiners. The interview score is either pass or fail.
Requirements for application:
1. Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese should meet the standards of Level B or above as defined by the National Language Committee.
2. There is no separate exam for education and educational psychology. These two subjects have been integrated into the second subject of the unified exam, which includes "Childcare knowledge and abilities" for preschool teachers, "Educational teaching knowledge and abilities" for primary school teachers, and "Educational knowledge and abilities" for middle school teachers. This exam is organized by the provincial education department.
3. Graduates from schools at all levels and in all majors can apply for the teacher qualification certificate examination after completing the written exams with passing scores. The scores are valid for two years during which candidates can apply for interviews.
4. Candidates should have good physical and psychological health, without infectious diseases or a history of mental illness, as determined by a medical examination conducted at a county-level hospital designated by the teacher qualification certification institution.
5. Applicants need to submit their educational certificates, ID cards, and photos.
Academic requirements:
- To obtain a preschool teacher qualification, candidates should have completed studies at a preschool normal school or obtained an associate degree or higher.
- To obtain a primary school teacher qualification, candidates should have graduated from a junior normal school or obtained an associate degree or higher.
- To obtain qualifications as teachers in junior high schools or vocational schools (academic subjects), candidates should have graduated from a higher normal college or obtained a bachelor's degree or higher.
- To obtain qualifications as teachers in high schools as well as vocational high schools, technical schools, and skill-training schools (academic subjects or vocational subjects), candidates should have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher from a higher normal university or other universities. To obtain qualifications for student internship guidance in vocational high schools, technical schools, and skill-training schools, candidates should also have at least an associate degree and hold a professional qualification equivalent to assistant engineer or above.
- To obtain qualifications as teachers in colleges and universities, candidates should have graduated from graduate school (for undergraduate teachers) or obtained a bachelor's degree (for associate professors) or higher.
- To obtain qualifications as adult education teachers, candidates should hold degrees at the appropriate levels for different levels and categories of adult education. These degrees include graduate degrees for higher education and high school diplomas or above for secondary education.
